The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued a recall for nearly 80,000 tires. Tires manufactured between August of 2013 and May of this year from Discount Tires and America’s Tire chains are being recalled due to the separation of the tread. According to Discount Tires, the problem of the tread had been noticed in February on Pathfinder tires, and that is when they began to test the tires. According to representatives of Discount Tires, the rubber within the tire was lacking in thickness between the steal belts, and once a belt cracked, the tread would come apart and lead to an auto accident. Fortunately, there have not been any reported accidents caused by the faulty tires. Stores will replace the tires at no cost or provide refunds.
